First Birthday Celebrations – A Good Friend is a Gift Card

What a fun time we had celebrating our first birthday. We had friends, cake, party hats and games – all the things that make a party so much fun.

Our party game was two-fold and a little bit sneaky. The first part was a Scavenger Hunt where our members had to search for items around their craft room. Then we presented a Tic-Tac-Toe board where everyone selected a row – either going horizonally, vertially or diagonally and used the items they found in the Scavenger Hunt to create a card. Other products were allowed to be used but these were compulsory items! Maheswari drew up this sketch for us to create with, which made it lots easier as we began to create along with our finds.

I chose the diagonal line of a Friendship sentiment, a bow and grid paper. Why a friendship sentiment amongst our birthday celebrations? The Stamping Lounge was started by 3 friends and we have cultivated a friendly community and that’s what we were celebrating. I also added in some striped Designer Series Paper and Ink Blending, so I ended up using 5 out of 9 elements on the grid.

Here’s a Look at The Finished Card

TSL 1st Birthday, Scavenger Hunt Card, Mixed Media Florals
  • Use different textures and layers (like embossed backgrounds, patterned paper, and die cuts) to create depth and interest.
  • Add mixed media touches such as ink blending and splattering for a soft artistic look. Here, I’ve added some Petal Pink blending on the tag and sentiment with some Crumb Cake Stampin’ Blend splatters to create depth and texture.
  • Die cut unexpected materials (like grid paper) to introduce a subtle, modern detail. I’ve used the Just a Note Dies to create the notebook edge which worked really well with the grid paper.
  • Layer frames and tags behind your sentiment to help it stand out while tying in coordinating colors.
  • Combine two different ribbons for added texture and a touch of dimension.
  • Place embellishments in odd numbers (like sequins or dots) to keep the design balanced and eye-catching.
  • Angle and curve your sentiment strip for a casual, organic feel.
