Art Squared Technique
The Art Squared technique is a no-fail and incredibly fun combination of a jigsaw puzzle and miniature works of art. Each little square feels like its own tiny world, coming together to create something truly special — and honestly, it’s just so cute.
What I love most about this technique is the sense of fluidity it allows. While there’s structure in the grid, there’s also plenty of freedom to play with colour, stamping, and texture, making every Art Squared project beautifully unique.

- Pick 3 colours. Begin with 3 colours you like that work well together. Experiment with combinations and you will be surprised at the beautiful results.
- Pick a range of stamp sets. Several smaller images work better to stand out on your small panels.
- Blend lightly and build slowly. Soft layers of ink give you more control and prevent any one square from overpowering the others.
- Repeat elements for cohesion. Use the same stamp image, colour, or motif in multiple squares so the design feels intentional rather than random.
- Mix solid and open images. Outline stamps paired with solid or textured images add contrast and visual interest in small spaces.
- Don’t feel the need to fill every square. Some blank area gives the eye a place to rest and lets other squares shine.
- Stamp some images off the edge. Partial images help the design flow across the grid and stop each square from feeling boxed in.
- Add texture last. Splatter, twine, thread, or subtle embellishments are best added once the squares are assembled so you don’t overdo it.
- Keep sentiments simple. A small label or die-cut sentiment works beautifully without covering too much of your art background.
